Where? The GrEEK Campus Downtown / The Creative School at Ryerson University
In this introductory workshop participants will be immersed in all elements of video production, including shoo)ng skills, audio recording, scriptwriting, interviewing, and post-production. Participants will conceptualize, write, and produce a short documentary feature by the end of the workshop, gaining hands-on experience with professional equipment and software with the applicable knowledge transferable to mobile content creation. This three day workshop will take place at two locations - two at The GrEEK Campus Tahrir location, followed by one at the Ryerson Cairo Campus.

About the instructors
Layla holds a master’s degree in Television and Digital journalism from the Kamal Adham Center (2019), at the American University in Cairo and a bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass communication (2017), School of Global Affairs and Public policy at the American University in Cairo. She has produced short documentaries and conducted interviews with public figures like AUC’s former president Francis Ricciardone and the Egyptian Archeologist and Egyptologist Zahy Hawas. She won an Award of Excellence for her documentary Cra$ in Colors at the Broadcast Education Association Festival in Las Vegas. Umara worked as a teaching and a research assistant in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the American University in Cairo, where her research focused on Middle East media, women’s studies, and poli)cal communication. She also worked as a Communication and Outreach officer in a US-aid funded project at the American University in Cairo (2021). She then joined The Creative School at Ryerson Cairo.
George is an Avid-certified audio engineer working with the Production Training & Support team at The Creative School Cairo Ryerson University, hosted by Universities of Canada. He earned his degree in Sound for Film, TV & Games from SSR London and his diploma in 360° Spatial Sound Design for VR from UCL. As a Studio Engineer he has worked on projects for a number of interna)onal clients, including Disney, Neolix, and Sony. He is the co-founder and curator of “Asyad Al Noom” a regular evening of contemporary electronic music, and serves as the Operations Manager for Shnit Interna)onal Short Film Festival.
