It has been eight years since The GrEEK Campus opened its doors in November 2013 with the goal of creating a central hub for innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, technology and creativity in the heart of Downtown Cairo. And this important milestone could not come at a better time, as we also celebrate the historic royal visit to The GrEEK Campus of HRH Prince Charles as part of his Sustainable Markets Initiative(SMI) on Friday, 19 November.

Despite the challenges of last year, the GrEEK community is growing faster than ever before. Today, The GrEEK Campus operates two locations bringing together 1,600+ entrepreneurs, mentors, investors, incubators, corporations, government and service providers under one roof.

Top Moments Over Eight Years

To celebrate this incredible achievement, we take a look back at some notable highlights from the eight-year journey of Egypt’s first heritage-based technology park.

In Their Words: From Our Members and Alumni

During this time, we’ve seen incredible growth within our community from a business and cultural perspective. Here’s what some of The GrEEK Campus’ members and alumni have to say about its impact on the ecosystem:

Ezzeldin Ahmed, Former General Manager, Dopay Egypt
“The GrEEK Campus provided us with the network and contacts that any business would need to grow. The central location is also very important for our startup.”

Ola Elwan, Global Director of Program Operations, Udacity for Government
“When Udacity launched in 2017, we wanted to raise awareness that we are here in the market and there is no better place to be than The GrEEK Campus. You get a lot of visibility, you have a lot of events always going on so people will pass by and know Udacitiy is here. We even have students that stop by and say hello when they know our location is at The GrEEK Campus.”

Tino Waked Director, Head of Middle East and Africa, Uber
“The number of young people exchanging ideas here to start their own businesses gives you the positive energy to do something big for Egypt. Many of the companies we work with operate on campus, which makes doing business much easier.”

Amy Mowafi, Co-founder and CEO, MO4 Network
“It’s been phenomenal being right in the heart of such a vibrant and dynamic entrepreneurial community and there is always something going on, interesting people not just from Egypt but from around the world coming to visit the campus and so it really creates phenomenal opportunities for connections that you wouldn’t get in a traditional office space.”

Engaging Our Community

To commemorate eight years of GrEEK, an anniversary celebration takes place in the downtown campus on Thursday, 25 November bringing together local, regional and international ecosystem stakeholders. The event kicks off with a keynote speech by The GrEEK Campus Chairman and Founder, Mr. Ahmed El Alfi, on the campus’ impact towards developing and growing local and regional entrepreneurship over the years followed by a networking session over pass-arounds. To round off the evening, a special musical performance is hosted featuring the powerful female vocalists: Dina El Wedidi, Nouran Abu Taleb and Maryam Saleh at the Courtyard.
